For the first time ever, OneBeat brings its thirteenth edition to Avaloch. Designed with the belief that the creation of music is an ideal vehicle for crossing cultural and political divides, OneBeat brings together 25 musicians selected from 18 different countries. An initiative of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by Found Sound Nation, OneBeat is cultivating a groundbreaking international network of leading artistic, technological, and social innovators in music.

This diverse group of musicians will be in residency at Avaloch for two weeks to exchange ideas, create original music, and develop meaningful friendships prior to touring venues and meeting with community partners in the New England area. Their creative process exemplifies how people from dramatically different musical backgrounds, with diverse training, conceptions of music, and aesthetics, can negotiate differences and find an interplay of cultures that maintains the integrity of each tradition.

This May, 317 will be visited by musicians from the OneBeat global music exchange, which brings together outstanding individual music and sound makers from every region of the world together for a collaborative residency. This is a once in a lifetime gathering of musicians from 17 countries across the globe, from Colombia to South Africa to Saudi Arabia to Indonesia. Come learn about unique approaches to songwriting from different musical and cultural backgrounds, and share and exchange your own work in the process.

Raise your voices in song in this choir and vocal workshop, led by an incredible group of musicians from around the globe as part of the OneBeat global music exchange. This May, 317 is partnering with musicians from the OneBeat exchange, which brings together outstanding individual music and sound makers from every region of the world together for a collaborative residency. This is a once in a lifetime gathering of musicians from 17 countries across the globe, from Argentina to Morocco to Saudi Arabia to Kyrgyzstan. In this choir and vocal workshop, a select group of musicians from around the globe will share their unique approaches to group song and sound-making, inviting you to take part. OneBeat is excited to bring our cohort of international artists to 317 Main’s community contra dance! We are excited to partner with 317 Main for a lively evening of dancing in their new Founders Hall. The All-Comers band, led by Ellen Gawler, will provide the music, while Maggie Robinson will be calling the dances. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a beginner, everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to meet new people and enjoy some fantastic music and dancing.
