Selbe Diouf, aka Sister LB, is a Senegalese MC who uses her voice to amplify the stories, struggles and empowerment of women and her vibrant Dakar neighborhood. Growing up in a family of musicians and influenced by her choreographer mother, Selbe became enamored by traditional Teranga melodies as well as hip hop artists like Positive Black Soul and Missy Elliott and became determined to establish herself in Senegal’s male dominated rap scene. Selbe is a dedicated educator and advocate, and has collaborated with the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration on a youth awareness campaign, where she led high school workshops in Dakar, Mbour Diamniadio and Rufisque. Selbe has been ranked as one the of the “Top 8 Most Influential” female rap artists in Senegal by Music in Africa, and has been featured in the Guardian, BBC and other international outlets.
