Anwar is an environmental advocate and percussionist from Dhi Qar, Iraq. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Middle Technical University in Baghdad. Currently, she works as a Relations and Media Officer with Humat Dijlah (The Tigris River Protectors) Association, which focuses on environmental issues, water, and heritage preservation. Anwar now lives in Baghdad and contributes to environmental protection and awareness through her skills in communication, content creation, research, and management, driven by a strong commitment to her cause. As the first woman to play the Darbuka in modern Iraqi music history, Anwar strives to break barriers and challenge norms through music. She co-founded the percussion Band “Sanjat” with Hussein Al-Harbi, and believes that music is a powerful tool for community engagement, making Sanjat not just a musical group but a means to promote peace, social cohesion, and highlight important social issues like women’s rights, nonviolence, environmental protection, and cultural heritage.
